- Shania's mother's family immigrated to Canada in 1912, her great grandparents arrived just too late to buy tickets on the Titanic.
- During the Great Depression her father's father was a bootlegger who brewed moonshine in the forests of Northern Ontario.
- She gave her first performance on the counter of a restaurant in Timmins when she was three. By the age of 11 she was a professional singing in bars.
- She made her first TV appearance on the Tommy Hunter Show in Canada when she was 12, she was billed as Ellie Twain.
- When she was 22 he mom and step-dad were killed in a car crash. She took a job in the Viva Vegas revue at the Deerhurst holiday resort and raised her two half brothers until after they left school.
