- She was born on August 28, 1965 in Windsor , Ontario Canada and christened Eilleen Regina Edwards. Her parents divorced when she was a toddler. Her mother remarried a man named Jerry Twain.
- As a child Shania used to play on the Mattagami Indian Reserve where she was taught how to hunt, to snare rabbits and track in the forests.
- As a kid, two of Shania's teeth never grew - so she had terrible gaps between them.
- She made her first TV appearance on the Tommy Hunter Show in Canada when she was 12; she was billed as Ellie Twain.
- She was just 22 years old when her mother and step-father were killed in a car crash.
