Country Pop Bites: Kacey Musgraves – August 21

Did you know that on this day in Country Music History in 1988 Kacey Musgraves was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas?

It's true! Happy Birthday, Kacey! She went on to  earn the  Academy of Country Music awards nominations in three categories in 2013 following her debut single, "Merry Go 'Round." She also co-wrote Miranda Lambert's hit "Mama's Broken Heart"!

• She began songwriting at the age of 8, when she wrote a song called "Notice me" for her elementary school graduation.
• She first learned to play music on the mandolin, and then began at age 12 started taking guitar lessons from a local musician named John DeFoore, and later described it as "one of the most important things that ever happened to me".
• She first got her start in the country music industry at the age of 18, when she would record demos to make money.
• She lists Alison Krauss as one of her career role models.
• She is currently dating her band mate Misa Arriaga.
