Did you know that on this day in Country Music History in 2013 George Strait launched the Cowboy Rides Away Tour?

It’s true! It was his last official concert trek, at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock, Texas. Martina McBride opened the show.

• In 1986, his 13-year-old daughter Jenifer was killed in a motorcycle crash. He dedicated his CMA Male Vocalist of the Year award that year to her memory.

• He acted in a handful of projects, including 1992's Pure Country in which he played a troubled country singer.
• As of 2007, he has received 16 CMA Awards — including two as Entertainer of the Year and five for Male Vocalist of the Year — and 15 Academy of Country Music® Awards.
