NorState Federal Credit Union donated 100% of the fees collected from the use of their coin sorters in Madawaska, Presque Isle and Fort Kent locations to two local county organizations that support Autism.

In January of 2016, Executive Marketing Director, Denise Duperre, contacted the Heather & Liam Connection in the St. John Valley and the Aroostook Autism Support Group and told their executive directors that NorState’s 2016 income fee from the coin sorters would benefit both organization coffers.

With the help of NorState members and non-members who came in to use the coin sorter machine, and an access fee of 2% of coins sorted for members and 5% for non-members, the credit union and users of the coin sorters were able to raise over $8,500.00  in spare change for the charities.

It is the mission of Autism Support Groups to provide support to individuals and their families affected by autism, they aim to promote education and awareness to build a community that offers both hope and acceptance to all in need.

Susan G. Whitehead, President and CEO of NorState Federal Credit Union had this to say about these two groups, “It is so wonderful that we are able to donate 100% of our service fees to recognize local charity in this very special way.  NorState truly believes in the credit union cooperative philosophy of People Helping People, The Heather & Liam Connection and the Aroostook Autism Support Group are making a difference in the lives of many county individuals ....."

“People who use our coin sorters in Madawaska, Fort Kent or Presque Isle are giving back to the communities they live in and to local, charitable organizations that assist or support local efforts, added Duperre.

The coin sorter charity for 2017 is Special Olympics Aroostook.
