NORRIDGEWOCK, Maine (AP) — A Maine community has come together to help build a new home for the widow of the county sheriff's deputy killed in the line of duty this year.

Sheryl Cole and Cpl. Eugene Cole lived in a mobile home in Norridgewock for years, saving up to build their dream home. Sheryl Cole says she thought that dream was over when her husband was killed in April, but a local contractor is building a home for her.

Local Maine businesses are also donating supplies and labor to the project.

Contractors say the plan is to build a new split-level home will replace the mobile home where Cole now lives.

Cole was killed April 25. John D. Williams was arrested and pleaded not guilty to murder charges.
