There were no injuries reported after a CN train derailed just below Edmundston on Friday afternoon.

Emergency Measures officials said 35 cars of the 160-car train left the tracks at around 3 p.m. along Highway 144 between Saint-Basile and Rivière-Verte, in northwest New Brunswick. Several of the cars ended up in the flood waters of the river.

The train had left Moncton earlier in the day.

Edmundston Emergency Measures Officials said most of the derailed cars contained wood and paper products, but some were empty crude oil tankers.  There were no leaks reported and no need for an evacuation.

Emergency personnel, including Edmundston Police, Edmundston Fire Department and Ambulance Services responded, along with officials from CN Rail and the Ministry of the Environment.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has sent a team of investigators to scene.
