Class AA Hoops Semis, Final Move South

The Maine Principals' Association has approved changes to the Class AA basketball tournament. These changes include increasing the numbers teams making the field and moving much of the event from Augusta to Portland.

Attendance for the Class AA tourney in Augusta has been poor. Most of the schools in AA are in the Portland area, with the exception being Bangor, Oxford Hills, Lewiston and Auburn.

Key changes to Class AA for the next two years...

> Eight teams or 66%, whichever is greater, will make the quarterfinal round. The higher seeded team will host these games.

> North Region and South Region semi-final games and regional championship games will be at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland. (North Region had been at Augusta Civic Center)

> The Class AA state titles games will be played at a site TBD, pending site availability.
