Chris Young's "I'm Comin' Over" lyrics gave him his biggest hit in quite a while, and the song has helped the singer take the next step in his career.

Co-writer and co-producer Corey Crowder first met co-writer Josh Hoge a decade ago at a radio event, when both were pursuing careers as recording artists. When he moved to Nashville, Hoge asked him to come in on some co-writing with him and Young, a frequent collaborator. The trio hit it off so well that they started socializing outside of writing, and the idea for "I'm Comin' Over" came from a text that Young sent around to that circle, sharing the idea for the title. They already had some ideas in mind when they got down to work, and Crowder had already developed a basic track that included the chords and a basic melody structure.

"It was really easy. That day went really fast," Crowder tells Taste of Country. "I don't remember that being a hard song to write ... we'd been talking about it for a week or so before we ever tackled it."

In the oftentimes random way that the music business unfolds, the collaboration led to Crowder co-producing Young's latest album, which is titled after the song.

"It's kinda crazy, you know ...  it all kinda stems from me and Josh meeting 10 years ago at some random radio event," he marvels. "I love it. You never know who's gonna end up being your best friend, or who's gonna end up being somebody you write hit songs with. I just would have never dreamed of that scenario happening."

That's exciting, to be a part of someone's career that, not only do I love as an artist, I love as a person.

When it came to the "I'm Comin' Over" lyrics, Crowder says his co-writers "had a lot more personal experience to pull from. I've been with my wife since I was 16, so they have a lot more breakup and makeup stories than I do."

The "I'm Comin' Over" lyrics describe a scenario that is universal: "So I'm comin' over, runnin' every red light / To hell with the closure, save it for another time / Try not to think about you, but it ain't workin' / Why put out a fire when it's still burnin' / Just when I think movin' on is getting closer / I'm comin' over."

The trio knew what they had from the start. "When I sent the demo over, we all knew that it was a hit song," Crowder shares. "It sounded huge, even on the demo. It felt like a single to me. And it was always something that Chris talked about, when we were cutting the record, he'd say, 'Man, this feels like a single contender.' But I still had no idea that it would be as big as it's been. I don't really know that there is a way to predict those kinds of things. If you know about it, please tell me," he adds with a laugh. "Save me some heartache."

The song reached No. 1 in November of 2015, and Young is enjoying a very successful album and touring cycle as a result.

"It has certainly changed my career, there's no doubt," Crowder says. "This is my first No. 1 as a writer, and as a producer. It's humbling and exciting at the same time. It makes me want to write more. It's just motivated me. It's cool to achieve a goal of mine, and set new goals for myself. I'm just excited to see what this next song does."

The same trio collaborated for Young's latest single, "Think of You," which features Cassadee Pope in a strong duet.

"I just love being part of the growth that Chris is having, and this record and single have been huge," Crowder says."That's exciting, to be a part of someone's career that, not only do I love as an artist, I love as a person. He's a really great friend."
