Here’s how a pet chicken from Wallagrass ended up at the Fort Kent Police station for an overnight visit – and laid an egg.

Police picked up the chicken around 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Chippy Center, an adult learning lab on Pleasant Street near the Fort Kent Community High School. Officer Picard took the chicken, named Chicken, to a shelter at the police station, according to the Bangor Daily News.

The family who owns the chicken said it must have gotten to the Chippy Center somehow with their son who is a junior at the high school.

As Chicken was being cared for, an egg was found in its shelter around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

The story has a happy ending as one of the owners, Shannon Lugdon, saw the Fort Kent PD’s Facebook post and realized it was their’s. They picked up Chicken Friday and took her home safe and sound.
