Just minutes after the Pedro Martinez number retirement ceremony Red Sox pitcher Wade Miley gave up five first inning runs to the Chicago White Sox and the Red Sox never recovered. A 9-4 loss means the Red Sox are 2-9 since the all star break.

Miley lasted 5.2 innings, giving up seven runs and 10 hits.

One of those hits was a controversial home run by Jose Abreu. Centerfielder Mookie Betts caught the ball but his momentum took him over the bullpen wall and the ball fell out of his glove. On replay review it was judged a home run.
