The Boston Celtics opened the new season with a 122-117 win over the Brooklyn Nets, even though they made it hard on themselves down the stretch. Isaiah Thomas scored 25, Jae Crowder had 21 to lead the C's.

Coach Brad Stevens had his bench in the game late in the 4th quarter when the Nets cut it single digits. Stevens had to put his starters back in the game for the final couple minutes.

Newcomer Al Horford was solid in his debut, 11 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 blocks.

Rookie Jaylen Brown added 9 points in his NBA debut.

The Celtics play in Chicago tonight and the game is live on Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket starting at 7:30pm.

Meanwhile, the news is not good for the Boston Bruins. A 5-2 loss to the New York Rangers. That is three straight losses. The B's had a 2-0 lead after one period but turnovers and bad penalties cost them. Rookie goalie Zane McIntyre couldn't hold down the fort.
