Several businesses received a letter from Maine's Department of Health and Human Services demanding that they remove cannabis edibles from their shelves.

The Portland Press Herald has reported that the status involving Maine's CBD products involving gummies, foods, and capsules have been called into question by state authorities.

The reason for the removal demand is that the Maine Department HHS has concluded that CBD is an unapproved food additive that federal authorities do not recognize as safe.

At this time, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services has made no comment about the decision or where future decisions will go from here.
