Dr. Shawn Laferriere, Medical Director of Radiology at Cary Medical Center, has been awarded the Cancer Imaging Program Fellowship, “Fellow of the Year” Award at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA.

The award recognizes the Caribou physician for “outstanding performance and commitment to excellence as a Fellow in the Cancer Imaging Program.”

An Aroostook County native, Dr. Laferriere began his career at Cary Medical Center in 2008. He was a key member of Cary’s medical staff and administration during the planning stages and renovation/construction of both the new Women’s Imaging Center in 2013, and the Jefferson Cary Cancer Center in 2015, on the hospital campus. He completed his Diagnostic Radiology Residency at Midwestern University, Saint James Hospitals and Health Centers in Olympia Fields, Illinois, and his internship at Mercy Suburban Hospital in East Norriton, Pennsylvania. In addition to being a Clinical Fellow in Radiology at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Laferriere has also been a Clinical Instructor of Radiology since 2016 at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. He is a Board Certified Physician with the American Osteopathic Board of Radiology.

At Cary Medical Center, Dr. Laferriere has served in several leadership capacities including Chairman of the Radiology-Pathology Committee and Chief of the hospital Medical Staff. He is currently a member of the hospital Board of Directors and the Jefferson Cary Foundation Board of Directors.

Dr. Laferriere will complete the year-long program the end of June, and will return as Medical Director of Radiology and Radiation Safety Officer at the Caribou Hospital on July 9th.

The Cancer Imaging Program (CIP) Fellowship at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), provides physicians with extensive experience in body imaging, including MRI, CT, PET-CT, and Ultrasound in adult patients with cancer. DFCI is a Harvard Medical School Teaching affiliate and provides adult clinical care jointly with Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH).
