A Caribou man last weekend in Bangor and is now facing felony drug trafficking charges.

According to MDEA Division Commander Peter Arno, 37-year-old Joel Gomez-Perez was arrested on Saturday, June 7th after a lengthy investigation. Through this investigation, agents learned that Gomez-Perez was responsible for the importation of cocaine into the State of Maine from Massachusetts.

This past Saturday, June 7th, Gomez-Perez boarded a commercial passenger bus in the Bangor area after purchasing a round trip ticket to Boston. It was believed that Gomez-Perez would be returning with drugs for re-distribution in Maine.

Early Saturday evening, Gomez-Perez was apprehended by investigators when the bus he was on returned to the Bangor area. Seized from Gomez-Perez was approximately two ounces of cocaine with a street value of $5,000.

Gomez-Perez was transported to the Penobscot County Jail where he was charged with Class B Trafficking in Schedule W drugs (cocaine).

MDEA was assisted in this investigation by the Bangor Police Department. This investigation is continuing.
