Canada Bread in Woodstock is closing down its bakery in the town, putting dozens of people out of work.

Woodstock Mayor Arthur Slipp confirmed the closure on Wednesday, according to CBC news. The production will reportedly be shifted to other Canada Bread plants in Moncton and Ontario.

Sources tell our newsroom that the tentative date for the closure is August 10th.

The Woodstock factory opened in 1946 as Karnes bakery and at one time was the town’s largest employer.

Canada Bread's brands include Ben's, Dempster's, Villaggio, Stonemill and Vachon, among others.
