Edmundston Police say Sancho Fournier forced his way into a home on Tighe Avenue on Saturday, but was surprised and subdued by the homeowners.

Officers arrested the suspect and later executed a search warrant at his apartment. Police say they seized a sawed-off shotgun and other evidence related to several other break-ins in the Edmundston area in the past month.

Fournier appeared in Edmundston Provincial Court Monday to face charges of break and enter, assault and obstructing peace officers.

Police say their investigation is ongoing, and more charges may be filed in connection with other break-ins.

Fournier will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Wednesday.
