Bridgewater Tractor Trailer Accident Closes Route 1 [UPDATE]
A tractor trailer accident on Route 1 in Bridgewater Wednesday morning closed the highway to traffic for several hours.
Maine State Police said 56-year-old Abdellatif Majji of Las Vegas, Nevada was traveling south around 5:40 a.m. when he lost control of the rig on a patch of ice. The truck crossed the roadway, struck a utility pole and flipped onto its side, causing the cab to detach from the trailer.
The truck driver, who is originally from Morocco, told us his wife, 36-year-old Fatima Hmidouche, was asleep in the cab at the time. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no one was injured.
Maine State Police, Bridgewater Fire Department, Crown Ambulance and other emergency personnel responded to the accident. The Maine DOT set up a detour during the morning hours and traffic was diverted to the Boundary Line Road.
The tractor trailer sustained substantial damage in the crash and was towed from the scene after its cargo of rolls of paper was offloaded. Crews from Emera Maine replaced the utility pole.
