The fast-moving fire charred the inside of the home belonging to Richard and April Michaud. According to Matthew Powers of the Bridgewater Fire Department, the family was not home when the fire broke out and a neighbor reported the blaze at 8:41 p.m.

Thirty firefighters from the Bridgewater and Monticello Volunteer Fire Departments spent about 2 hours on scene. Powers said that the structure was saved, but high heat and heavy smoke damage may leave the building unlivable.  Two cats perished in the fire.

The State Fire Marshall's office was investigating to determine the cause of the blaze.

Powers said the family is staying with relatives nearby.  The Bridgewater Fire Department got in touch with the American Red Cross, which will be working with the couple and their children to help them with their immediate needs.

Donations to help the family can be dropped off at 119 Boundary Line Road in Bridgewater or mailed to April Michaud, PO Box 1313, Houlton ME 04730.
