Breaking News: Shooting at an Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut
[Update] The dead gunman has been identified as Adam Lanza, 20, whose mother was a teacher at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. Lanza graduated the same school in 2006. He was currently living in Hoboken, N.J. At 9:30 Lanza entered the school, dressed in dark clothes and he carried four guns. He opened fire immediately. He killed 18 children and 8 adults.
[Update] According to the Associate Press the first gunman had ties to the Sandy Hook school. It's now believed that one of the guns used in the attack was a .223 caliber rifle.
[Update] Unconfirmed reports are suggesting that a suspect is in custody. Officials are still trying to determent if the suspect had any involvement in the Conn. shooting.
[Update] More than 18 children were shot and killed this morning in Newtown, Conn. SWAT teams are still looking for the second shooter.
[Update] According to police reports the gunman is dead. And another gunman is still at large. More children are being evacuated.
[Update] A hospital is reporting that they have received 3 patients from Sandy Hood school, where the shooting occurred. Parents are rushing to the school to pick up their kids.
An elementary school in Newtown, Conn. is currently under a lockdown after a report of a shooting. Police officers are currently at the scene.
"Due to reports of a shooting as yet unconfirmed, the district is taking preventive measures by putting all schools in lockdown until we ensure the safety of all students and staff," Newton Public School District secretary of superintendent Kathy June said in a statement.
The report goes on to say that all public and private schools in Newtown are also under a lockdown. Kindergarten classes and school buses have also being canceled.
