Longtime Ellsworth High School soccer coach Brian Higgins announced his retirement from coaching on Tuesday.

Higgins, who has been coaching soccer at Ellsworth since 1974, told students that he would not be returning to helm the bench for the Eagles in 2016, according to EHS athletic director Josh Frost.  He had a 566-103-45 record with the Eagles’ soccer team.  Higgins will continue coaching tennis in the spring moving forward.

In addition to being the winningest soccer coach in the state of Maine, Higgins was also a coach for the boy’s basketball teams at the school, in addition to teaching physical education for the past 42 years.

Higgins graduated with a B.S. degree from Springfield College in 1974 and went to high school at Hampden Academy.

More details to come as they become available.
