Earlier this month the Boston Red Sox announced that President and CEO Larry Luchinno would step down at seasons end. Now some help has been added to pick up the slack. The Red Sox have hired former Los Angeles Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto on an interim basis to work in the front office to help with off season moves according to several published reports in Boston. The team wanted to bring in another person to handle the baseball operations responsibilities currently performed by Luchinno. Weather this ends up turning into a permanent hire remains to be seen.

Dipoto played seven seasons in the Major League with the Rockies, Mets and Indians. After his playing days he became the interim GM at Arizona before taking over the Angels in 2011. He resigned that position on July 1st citing differences between himself and manager Mike Scioscia.

Ten days ago the team said Sam Kennedy would take over Luchinno's responsibilities on the business side of the operation. Kennedy has been his right hand man since the current ownership group arrived in Boston.
