See the Music Video for Blake Shelton’s ‘Angry Birds Movie’ Song, ‘Friends’
Shelton’s movie soundtrack contribution finds its narrator musing about how an unlikely friendship got him through some hard times. The corresponding music video features the country star performing "Friends" in a recording studio, with the movies titular animated birds -- and their pig nemeses -- having a little fun. As Shelton and company perform the song, the feathered friends dance along, explore the studio and watch the performance while noshing on some popcorn. Press play above to watch.
The Angry Birds Movie — a combined effort between Sony Pictures and Rovio Entertainment, the developer of the film’s titular smartphone game, in which players sling birds at pigs — will act as “the origin story for how that conflict came to exist between birds and little green piggies,” producer John Cohen explains.
“I can write things about myself and my life,” Shelton reflects of penning “Friends.” “But I don’t have a whole lot of experience being shot out of a slingshot at pigs.”
In The Angry Birds Movie, Shelton also voices the character Earl, a country-boy pig.
“They kept saying, ‘More country!’" the The Voice coach says recalls. "I felt like I was doing a voice-over for Dukes of Hazzard.”
The Angry Birds Movie‘s soundtrack, on which “Friends” appears, is set for release on May 6; it is available for pre-order now via iTunes. The movie itself is scheduled to hit theaters on May 20; it also feature the voices of Jason Sudeikis, Maya Rudolph, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad, Danny McBride and more.
