UMaine's Will Merchant pounced on a rebound and scored the game winning goal in Friday night's 5-3 win over Princeton. It gives the Black Bears a three game winning streak.

Maine improves to 3-8-3. Princeton falls to 2-7. Game two of the series in tonight at Alfond Arena.

The Black Bears had a one goal lead twice during the game but the Tigers kept coming back to tie. After the Merchant game winner, Steven Swavely added an empty-netter.

Nolan Vesey, Blaine Byron and Andrew Tegeler scored Maine's first three goals.

Goalie Matt Morris stopped 30 shot for his third straight win. Colton Phinney had 38 saves for Princeton.
