Billy Gilman Wins ‘The Voice’ Battle With ‘Man in the Mirror’ [Watch]
Adam Levine had a tough decision on Monday evening (Oct. 10) after a stellar performance of Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror" from Andrew DeMuro and Billy Gilman. The Voice coach had to choose who to keep on his team.
The two vocalists on Team Adam impressed all four coaches.
"I don't know that I've ever seen a more evenly matched battle," Blake Shelton said following the performance. "Billy has this voice that cuts through everything. It's like this laser voice and it's so good, man."
Alicia Keys agreed and praised the singer. "Billy, your voice immediately started out in this crystal space," she commented.
Ultimately, the decision came down to Levine, who said he is always looking for the person who he thinks will win The Voice.
"Billy, you do your homework and you will refine your craft as well as anybody out there," Levine noticed. "I'm always choosing people who I feel will win this thing. I have to make my decision based on that. The winner of this battle is Billy."
Later, Levine remarked that Billy has "been professional since he was young. You’re just drawn into what he’s doing."
Gilman got his first big break in the music industry when his debut single “One Voice” was released in 2000. He was just 11 years old at the time, making him the youngest country artist to garner a Top 40 hit. Several albums and singles later, the singer's success faltered.
“It’s been a struggle,” Gilman said after his win on Monday night. “I just feel so happy, so validated, because that hasn’t happened in a very long time.”
