MCI Huskies coach Tom Bertrand and MDI Trojans coach Mark Shields have been selected Maine Football Coaches Association Coach of the Year state winners.

Bertrand(Class D) and Shields(Class C) are joined by Dan Cooper of Brunswick HS and Keven Cooper from Bonny Eagle HS as state winners for their efforts last fall.

The annual MFCA coaches clinic was held in Auburn.

Bertrand, in his 15th season, led his MCI Huskies to the Class D state title in November, scoring a go-ahead touchdown on the final play of the game vs Lisbon. His Huskies won the school's first state title in 42 years. During the run through the undefeated season, Bertrand earned his 100th career win.

Shields, in his 9th year as head coach, led his MDI Trojans(9-2) to the Class C North Region title before losing to Wells in the state game. It was a first-ever regional title for football at MDI.

Cooper was selected Coach of the Year for Class B. Kevin Cooper won for Class A.

The Maine Football Coaches Association promotes football in the state and helps to keep lines of communication open among coaches at all levels in Maine.
