Maine State Police have charged a 30-year-old Benton man with possessing child pornography, after thousands of explicit images were allegedly found on his computer.

Investigators with the State Police Computer Crimes Unit, along with the FBI, searched Joseph Hood’s home on Pleasant Drive Thursday morning, according to Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland.

Hood was charged with Possession of Sexually Explicit Materials and transported to the Kennebec County Jail. Bail was set at $750 cash with several conditions, including no contact with anyone under the age of 16. He is also prohibited for using computers or data storage devices.

An initial search of Hood’s computer showed thousands of images of child porn, McCausland said. Investigators will now make a further examination of his computer files.
