Members of UMPI, TAMC, CompetitorME, Healthy Aroostook, as well as local athletes met Wednesday at UMPI's Gentile Hall to discuss the County Fit and Fun Summer Series.

Youth Triathlon; Sylvia Getman, TAMC president and CEO; and Dick Gardiner, director of Gentile Hall at UMPI.

The number of registrants has more than doubled for triathlon hosted events in the County from 2012 to summer 2013 plus an increase in people interested in 5K races in the region has prompted four County organizations, each working to improve the health and wellbeing of area residents, to add more events to this summer's calendar.

The summer series will begin and end with triathlon events at UMPI. The Tri-Aroostook for adults will be making a return later in June along with the first-ever Tri-Aroostook Kids contest. Both events, coordinated by CompetitorME, TAMC, and UMPI, are reportedly the only sanctioned triathlons in Northern Maine.
