A U.S. Army Sergeant who grew up in Topsham, Maine was killed over the weekend.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, 26-year-old Sergeant Corey E. Garver was killed in Afghanistan on Sunday.  Garver was lost his life when an improvised explosive device detonated near his patrol. He was just deployed to Afghanistan this Spring.

Sergeant Garver graduated from Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham and joined the Army in 2007.

Garver's parents no longer live in Maine.
