All Star Hopeful Bogaerts Delivers Game-Winning Hit

Bogaerts strengthened his All Star case with a clutch 3-run single to give Boston a 4-3 win over the Marlins in Tuesday's series opener.

Bogaerts' .304 batting average ranks second among AL shortstops while his 40 RBI are 12 more than any other AL shortstop.

Travis Shaw, who was recalled to the Sox for the third time this season, started at first base for the struggling Mike Napoli and turned in a career-best, 3-for-4 night at the plate.

Wade Miley started the game for the Sox but was tagged with a no-decision despite striking out nine in 6.2 innings of work. The win went to Junichi Tazawa, his first of the year, and Koji Uehara struck out a pair in the ninth to earn his 20th save.

With the win, the Sox moved within five games of the AL East lead for the first time since June 3.

Rick Porcello looks to snap a personal seven game losing streak when he takes the mound Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. as Boston closes the two game set with Miami.
