Aliyah Moulden Growls Out Fiery Reba McEntire Cover on ‘The Voice’ [Watch]
Though recorded by the country superstar in 1992, the song has strong ties to the blues and Motown world. Moulden's coach Blake Shelton said it was "tailor-made" for his mentee, adding that she has a lot of "energy" and "charisma" in her voice. He's right.
Donning a pretty white dress, Moulden totally owned the stage with the sassy track. Prior to her performance, the 15-year-old singer revealed that songs like "Take It Back" are the style of music that her grandmother loves, making the performance that much more special. Delivering a strong rendition of the blues-filled song, backed by a big band production, her soulful voice paired perfectly with the energy of the song. While bouncing around onstage to the uptempo beat, her coach was also bopping along in approval, totally engaged in the performance that included an synergetic jam session with the band and even a surprise, signature wail at the end, which brought a standing ovation.
"America is falling in love with you because it's impossible not to," Shelton told Moulden after the fiery performance, saying he was "blown away" and that fans can hear her getting better each week she takes the stage. Judges Alicia Keys and Gwen Stefani also had nothing but good comments to make to the young singer, with Keys saying she "loved it" while Stefani admitted she is floored by the hopeful's confidence at just 15 years old.
Moulden finds out if she makes it into the Top 10 of the singing competition on Tuesday night (May 2).
