A Winter Storm Warning Posted for Most of Aroostook County
A powerful winter storm moving into northern Maine and western New Brunswick later today could dump nearly a foot of snow in some areas before it winds down late tonight.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for most of Aroostook County from 10 a.m. Wednesday until 1 a.m. Thursday. A winter weather advisory is in effect in the upper Saint John Valley.
Snowfall is expected to range from 5 to 9 inches in most areas, with up to a foot possible in the south. The snow could be especially heavy during the evening hours, with blowing snow causing difficult travel conditions.
Meanwhile, Environment Canada's forecast for Carleton and Victoria Counties, New Brunswick calls for 10-15 centimetres (4-6 inches) of snow.
Forecasters say the snow will taper to snow showers overnight, then skies will start clearing by Thursday morning.
