The family from a woman who was from Lee, Maine, who police say committed suicide when she stepped in front of a tanker truck on I-95, has made a statement concerning her son Enoch McGovern, who survived the incident.

On October 4, 2018, Heidi McGovern stepped in front of a tanker truck on I-95, outside of Lincoln, Maine, while still holding her 2-year old son, Enoch.

Upon impact, McGovern died, but Enoch was thrown to the ground on the other side of the highway.

Many outlets have reached out to speak with the family of Enoch McGovern and so the family thought it fit to make a statement for those who wish to support him.

The McGovern Family has provided the following statement to the public:

"The family of Enoch McGovern wishes to share our deep and sincere gratitude and appreciation for the outpouring of support for our sweet boy and the entire family. The prayers, cards, gifts, and well wishes have helped our family heal and come together during an extremely difficult time. Enoch continues to improve and our attention now has turned to Enoch's recovery and ensuring we continue to promote a healing environment for the very real work ahead. During this time, we respectfully request space and privacy for our family as we focus on Enoch and the journey ahead.

Enoch has received many gifts over the past week, much more than any child could ever imagine, and for this, we are eternally grateful. We would be honored if those wishing to provide a toy or gift would consider making a donation to the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program in Enoch's name, so other children can be graced with the same warmth Enoch has felt over the past week. Toy donations can be directed to The Salvation Army at 65 South Park Street in Bangor, ME - 04401. In time, once he is better, we will find a way to ensure Enoch knows the breadth and depth of your support and love. Folks who wish to donate to Enoch's medical care can do so through our gofundme page."

We all hope the best for Enoch and the McGovern family during this difficult time.
