A Historic Last Dance in Presque Isle [PHOTOS]

'The Last Dance' at the William V. Haskell Community Center, Saturday night, was a chance for everyone to reminisce, make new memories & say good-bye to the rec center.

Last night's celebration will go down in history. Dancing, eating & good friends was the best send-off you could ask for after 70 years of memorable events at the William V. Haskell Community Center.

The building started as a USO club and became the Presque Isle Recreation Center in 1946. William Haskell ran the department for 35 years as Maine & Presque Isle's first full-time recreation director. It was named after him In 1987. The property is in disrepair and is scheduled to be demolished. It was sold to Kirk Carroll of Carroll's Auto Sales, a sponsor of the dance.

The new facility,The Sargent Family Community Center, will keep the history and tradition alive. Pictures and memorabilia from the old rec center are on display at the new one.
