It's almost tourist season. Commercial Street in Portland is about to be flooded with out-of-towners searching for Maine's best lobster roll and posing for photos in front of Portland Head Light. Before they take over, Mainers should take a chance to be a tourist in our own state. Here are 5 stops to make before those from away make them their own personal selfie backdrops.

Portland Lobster Company

Seafood and live music all on a deck over the ocean... You better believe tourists love this spot but what's not to love for a local Mainer? Portland Lobster Company opens on Thursday, May 5th. Get there before the others do!

Portland Head Light

There's something really special about walking the paths at Portland Head Light without having to dodge tourist and their screaming children to see the most beautiful lighthouse in the country. It's open year round from sunrise to sunset, so go explore now.

Old Orchard Beach

Old Orchard Beach is my favorite place to go in the winter, especially with my dogs. At low tide the beach is massive and no one else is there except for other locals wearing their Bean boots and down jackets. The Pier opens in mid-April, which brings plenty of fun, but you know how much the tourists love their Pier Fries. If you're not a fan of crowds go get your fill of OOB early in the season.

Red's Eats

Pretty much as soon as Red's Eats in Wiscasset opens for the season there's a perpetual line of people waiting to get their lobster rolls. Red's Eats opens on April 18th.

L.L. Bean Flagship Store

Go stock up on your essentials before the tourists come to gawk at our selection of flannels and Maine hunting shoes.
