Joey + Rory Take Home Three 2016 ICM Awards
Joey + Rory were among the biggest winners at the 2016 Inspirational Country Music Awards, held in Hendersonville, Tenn., on Thursday night (Oct. 27). The husband-and-wife duo together received two honors, while the late Joey Feek won one.
Joey + Rory's "When I'm Gone" received the ICM trophy for Mainstream Inspirational Country song, and Joey and Rory Feek were honored as the year's top Mainstream Duo / Group. Joey Feek posthumously received the Mainstream Country Female Vocalist honor. A complete list of 2016 winners is available on the Inspirational Country Music Association's website; Feek was also remembered during the awards ceremony with a special tribute, a press release reports.
Joey + Rory released their final album, Hymns That Are Important to Us, in February, just a few weeks before Joey Feek passed away after a battle with cancer. Fans both old and new had followed the Feeks' story for months, and that interest helped Hymns top both the Billboard Top Country Albums and Top Christian Albums charts in its first week.
In addition to Joey + Rory, other nominees at the 22nd annual ICM Awards included Brad Paisley, Josh Turner, Mo Pitney, Ricky Skaggs, Scotty McCreery, Tim McGraw and Vince Gill, who were all nominated for the Mainstream Country Male award, and Hillary Scott, Carrie Underwood, Dolly Parton, Kelsea Ballerini, Lauren Alaina, Maddie & Tae, Martina McBride, Sara Evans and Trisha Yearwood, all of whom earned Mainstream Country Female nominations. Artists are nominated at the ICM Awards to recognize their efforts in promoting the messages of “Faith, Family & Country,” which is also a slogan of the organization.
The ICM Awards are part of the annual ICM Faith, Family & Country Week, which includes nightly showcases, a luncheon, a membership breakfast, seminars and more around Nashville.
