Preliminary numbers from the Department of Natural Resoucrces indicate that New Brunswick hunters bagged a total of 3,728 moose. That's about 45 more than in 2014, which represents an increase of one percent.

More than 63,000 New Brunswickers applied for a license this year.

Meanwhile, the Department of Natural Resources have already started evaluating the moose population in preparation for next year. Biologists estimate it at about 32,000 adult moose.

The New Brunswick government is in talks with hunting groups about having two moose seasons in 2017.

Marc Belliveau, spokesperson with the Department of Natural Resources, says the discussions are taking place as the Liberal government moves ahead with plans to return to a three-day moose season in 2016.
