The 2014 World Pond Hockey Championship came to a close Sunday afternoon in Plaster Rock, New Brunswick after 4 days, 2 snowstorms and hundreds of games.

The 13th annual event welcomed 120 teams from all across Canada, the U.S. and several other countries, including England, Denmark, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the Cayman Islands.

The top 32 teams squared off Sunday as the skates flew and the wind whipped up the newly fallen snow on Plaster Rock’s Roulston Lake.

The Acadian Boys from Tracadie-Sheila, NB successfully defended their title by defeating the Extreme Gym team from Saint-Jean sur Richelieu, Quebec in the men’s final 11-8. The team includes Glen Ferguson, Jeff Wilson, Martin Richard, Martin McGraw and Junior Brideau.


 In the ladies’ final, the MacPhee Plumbing Golden Plungers of Quispamsis, NB  beat the Airforce Women from Greenwood, Nova Scotia by a score of 15-11. The Golden Plungers are Shana MacPhee, Shelley Leahy, Emilie Arsenault, Darcie West and Melanie Richard.
