Thanksgiving is about family, friends, food and giving thanks for what you have in life. Sadly though, many people right here in Aroostook County wind up spending the holiday alone.

There are various places that will be holding Thanksgiving dinner for any one who would like to join in that may not have any where else to go. We've come up with a list of places people can come together and enjoy the holiday meal.

There will be a free Community Thanksgiving Dinner at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Mars Hill on Sunday, November 23rd from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be a Turkey dinner with all the fixings!  Eat in or takeout. Elderly or shut-in call 429-9285 for free delivery in the communities of Mars Hill, Blaine, E. Plantation.

The 5th Annual free community Thanksgiving Dinner will be held at the Christian Life Fellowship Center located at 641 Main Street in Madawaska. Dinner will be served starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday, November 23rd. Free delivery is available in the Madawaska area for the elderly and disabled. Call 728-6550 to leave your address, phone number, and number of meals needed.

On Sunday, November 23, 2014, from noon to 5:00 p.m. the Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hayward Frazier Post #2599, will be serving its annual Thanksgiving meal free of charge to all veterans at its 6 State Road, Presque Isle location. There will be a nominal charge of $5.00 for spouses or guests of veterans.  The meal includes turkey or ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, mixed vegetables, and the choice of a variety of mouth-watering desserts. Presque Isle Elks will pick up and deliver to the VFW any veteran needing transportation and will also assure their return to their residence or other destination.  All veterans, including wheelchair-bound Vets, may reserve transportation to this event by calling the Elks Lodge at 764-0985 or Ron Mullen at 768-5848.

The Presque Isle Wesleyan Church will be hosting the Carroll McKenna Thanksgiving Dinner in the local communities on Thursday, November 27th.  Meals will be delivered between 11:00 a.m. and Noon, with a full Thanksgiving Dinner served at the church at Noon.  For delivery or to join in a meal at the church, please call 764-5187.

The  VFW in Caribou will be hosting a Thanksgiving meal that will be open to the public on Thursday, November 27th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Cost will be $10 per person and you can purchase tickets in advance or at the door. For more information please call 498-2761.

St. Mary’s Church in Houlton, will be putting on a traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner for the public on Thursday, November 27th from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. This dinner is for anyone who wants to share in the holiday with us. If you don’t want to eat alone, come on over, if you don’t want to cook a large meal, come on over, if you can’t afford a big dinner, come on over. All are welcome and there is no charge.
