Friday, May 16

Enjoy an "Evening with the Stars" at the Limestone Community School Auditorium starting at 6:00 p.m. Friday.  This free event is a celebration of Limestone's Destination Imagination Teams and the Community.  There'll be performances from students, an ice cream social and photo opportunities. Donations to support the Limestone teams' trip to the D.I. national competition.

Take in a free movie in the park Friday evening at Riverside Park in Presque Isle.  The movie is 'Fever Pitch' starring Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore. Showtime is around 8:00 p.m. when the sun goes down. Bring your family, lawn chairs, blankets and some snacks and kick back on a warm, spring evening.  It's part of the City of Presque Isle's new Riverside Public Market.

A Mother & Son Dance is happening at the Presque Isle Rec. Center Friday evening.  It's open to boys in grades K-6 (and that special woman in their lives). Dance from 7-9pm with music and lighting from D.J. Jake Ball.  The cost is $7 per couple, with photos available for $5.

Common Crossing will be performing Friday evening outside Caribou High School to benefit the Caribou Athletic Boosters. Gate opens at 6:30.  Cost is only $5 per person and children under 12 get in free. Bring your lawn chairs and dancing shoes and enjoy the beautiful night!

 

Saturday, May 17

The 7th Annual Aroostook River Fun Run will be held on Saturday. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The first 75 people to register receive a free t-shirt!   The Fun Run starts at 10 a.m. from the Washburn Public Landing.  It ends with a barbeque lunch at the Presque Isle Fish and Game Club. Caribou's City-Wide Yard Sale goes all weekend long.  Maps are available at local convenience stores and grocery stores, or just drive around the Caribou area Saturday and Sunday and scope out all the bargains.  Sponsored by the Caribou Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Stockholm Historical Society Museum's 3rd Annual Barn Sale is Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9am - 3pm each day. A wide variety of items for sale. For more information contact Lori and  896-5731.

A vernal pool workshop will be held at the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge in Limestone Saturday from 9 til noon. Refuge staff will lead a short hike to various vernal pools to look at salamanders, frogs and their egg masses.  Make sure to wear waterproof boots. For more information call 328-4634

The Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis will be held Saturday at Riverside Park in Presque Isle.  Registration begins at  9:30 am with the walk starting at 10:30. Walk to raise money & awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. FMI: Call Kathy at 551-6871.

Greater Houlton Christian Academy will hold a fundraising Car Wash on Saturday from 10 to 3 at F.A. Peabody Company on North Road in Houlton. Stop by and get that dirty vehicle washed for a good cause.

Cary Medical Center, along with the Caribou Historical Center and Museum, will be holding a one day only display of vintage medical equipment at the Museum on Saturday from noon- 4:00 p.m.  The Museum is situated at 1033 Presque Isle Road in Caribou.  For more info call 498-2556.

The Ashland Spring Games take place Saturday from 9 - 4 at the Ashland Trotting Park. The event features: Skidder Obstacle Course, Forwarder Skills Contest, Log Loader Checkerboard Competition, and a Log Load Tie Down Competition. There will be equipment displays as well. The County Renegades Football Team will be holding their call-outs and first mini-camp at the Airport Field in Houlton on Saturday at 1 p.m.  You must be entering grades 8-12  in the fall, and not be attending Houlton schools.  New Brunswick students and homeschoolers are welcome.  Please bring a parent if you are signing up for the first time.  Wear sneakers and sweat pants or shorts.  Bring water.  The event will last for about 2.5 hours.  For more info, call Head Coach Steve Martin at 532-3635.

Ashland Project Grad is hosting a Bluegrass Concert & Spaghetti Supper at the Ashland District School on Saturday.  Supper starts at 5:00 pm and Concert begins at 6:30. Tickets are $10 at the door/Children 12 and under get in free.  Performers: "Fiddleheads" and "Wilf Clark & The Misty Mountaineers."  All proceeds go to Ashland Project Grad for the Class of 2014.

The Aroostook Friends of NRA 2nd Annual Banquet to be held on Saturday from 5 to  9 p.m. at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center. There will be a night of fun and games to raise money to be used for youth and adult education programs, shooting range development and more.  There will also be a silent auction, live auction and raffles going on throughout the evening.  Win firearms or bid on some collectible firearms as well as memorabilia and collectibles.  For more info go to http://www.friendsofnra.org.

The Veterans Memorial Park Music Fest is Saturday from 6 to 9 pm at the Caribou Performing Arts Center. The concert will feature country, gospel, Barbershop quartet and bluegrass music by local artists!  Proceeds benefit the new addition at  Veterans Memorial Park in Caribou.  The cost is a donation of any amount. The Fort Fairfield VFW is hosting a Comedy Show Fundraiser starting at 8 p.m. Saturday, featuring comedians Steve Scarfo, Kyron Hobdy and Rob Steen. All funds raised will benefit the Fort Fairfield Post 6187 VFW Veteran’s Memorial Fund. There are limited tickets, $20 each, call 472-6005.

 

Sunday, May 18

The Madawaska River Run begins Sunday morning at the bridge on the Little Madawaska Lake Road in Westmanland. Registration: 9:00 a.m.  Race start: 11:00.  The $12 entry fee includes t-shirt. Hosted by the Maine Swedish Colony.

REDY…Set…Let’s Go! Youth Triathlon Training in Presque Isle. 1:00 p.m. Sunday at UMPI’s Gentile Hall. Led by Amanda Cushman, this session will focus on the run portion of the youth triathlon. Parents are encouraged to participate with their children.  FMI, visit www.redyyouthtriathlon.org

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host nationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Ellis Paul for a benefit concert on Sunday at 3 p.m., in the Campus Center.
